CSU police using rechargable electric scooters to patrol campus
CSU police this fall are using three-wheeled standup electric scooters to patrol campus.
CSU police say the quiet scooters can travel up to 25 mph, and because they are electric powered, can be used inside dorms or other large buildings.
The scooters are featured in the Today @ CSU daily campus newsletter, which says, “Without question, an officer in a patrol car is more difficult to approach than one who is at eye level in an environment that puts the officer and community member on equal ground. The police department hopes that officers patrolling in the T3s will get a greater sense of the dynamics, strengths, and problems in the university communities that they patrol.”
The T3’s manufacturer touts their “imposing command presence.” News reports from other police departments say the T3s cost about $9,000 each. However, auctions on Scooters for Less have been selling them under $5000!
